Saturday 23rd February

NAP Samburu Shujaa 7/2 (B365) – Chepstow 15:40 – 2pts win WON +7pts

  • 16 length winner over course and distance last time out, building on a couple of promising runs at Warwick and Lingfield in recent months (has improved for each run)

NB Conna Cross 11/2 (PP) – Kempton 16:10 – 2pts win 3rd -2pts

  • Course and distance winner on stable debut and has since placed in three from four over varying distances

  • Jockey T Cannon 31% winning strike rate in the last 3 years over fences at the course

3B Tayzar 13/2 (sky) – Newcastle 16:30 – 2pts win  3rd -2pts

  • Has a win and 2x seconds to his name from his last four runs – races off the same mark off bottom weight so should have a good chance with a clear round of jumping

13:50 Kempton – Bags Groove 15/8 (sky) WON

14:05 Lingfield – Encore D’Or 2/1 (BV) Lost

14:25 Kempton – Red Force One 8/1 e/w (sky – 4 places) 4th

14:40 Newcastle – Vicente 11/2 (sky) Lost

15:00 Kempton – Angels Breath 5/6 (BV) 2nd

Angels Breath was highly regarded prior to his debut for Nicky Henderson and didn’t disappoint when we finally got to see him on a racecourse, travelling well before asserting in the home straight to win by over four lengths. He was limited to just four jumps and wasn’t as fluent as some of his more experienced rivals, but it was hard not to be impressed with the manner that he breezed to the front and given that it was his first outing for the stable he will also have learnt a lot from that experience (although it is worth noting that most of his rivals that day have raced again since and none have done anything to suggest that the form is particularly strong)

With just a couple of weeks to go until Cheltenham some would argue that this is just a warm-up for the Supreme and the result isn’t important, others will argue it is a must-win if he is to be a serious Supreme contender…. personally I think that class is class and Nicky Henderson wants to win as many races as possible so I fully expect Angels Breath to do the business here today.

Others to consider include Scarlet Dragon who was an impressive winner at Huntingdon a couple of weeks back (2nd and 4th have won since) and can be expected to improve as that was his first attempt over hurdles, while Rouge Vif has won two of his last three and was only a couple of lengths behind another Supreme hope in Mister Fisher at Kempton on Boxing Day so also brings decent form to the table.

15:15 Lingfield – Wissahickon 1/3 (B365) WON

15:35 Kempton – Glen Rocco 4/1 (BV) Lost
